The right cleaning solution matters as much as the machine itself, since most carpet cleaner formulas are designed for a specific type of machine. The nine options below range from $14.98 to $279.99, mixing solutions with a couple of the machines they pair with.

The Bissell 78H63 Deep Clean Pro 4X is a professional-strength carpet shampoo designed to tackle the toughest messes. It's perfect for households with pets, kids, or high foot traffic, where carpets endure heavy use. This concentrated formula promises to remove ground-in dirt, tough stains, and deep odors, leaving your carpets visibly cleaner and smelling fresh.
What sets this solution apart is its StainProtect Technology, which creates a protective barrier on carpet fibers after cleaning. This helps resist future stains and makes spills easier to clean, extending the life of your carpets. Users have reported dramatic improvements in carpet appearance, with even 'already clean' areas yielding dirty tank water, proving its deep-cleaning power.
In terms of design, the 48-ounce bottle is convenient and easy to use with most deep cleaning machines, including Bissell and other leading brands. The formula is versatile, suitable for carpets, area rugs, and upholstery, offering a complete home cleaning solution. The fresh scent is a hit with many users, though those sensitive to fragrances might find it a bit strong.
While the price is slightly higher than some competitors, the concentrated nature means you use less per cleaning, making it cost-effective in the long run. Some users note that proper dilution is key to avoid residue, but following instructions yields excellent results. Additionally, every purchase supports the Bissell Pet Foundation, adding a feel-good factor to your cleaning routine.
Overall, the Bissell 78H63 Deep Clean Pro 4X is a top-tier carpet shampoo that delivers on its promises. With a stellar 4.7-star rating from over 40,000 reviews, it's a trusted choice for anyone seeking a deep, effective clean. When choosing a carpet cleaning solution, consider the type of stains and odors you need to address. The Bissell 78H63 is a concentrated formula, so you'll need to mix it with water according to the instructions for your machine. It's compatible with most deep cleaners, but always check your machine's manual.
For best results, vacuum your carpets thoroughly before deep cleaning. Test the solution on a small, hidden area first to ensure colorfastness. Use the recommended amount to avoid excessive foam, which can be harder to extract. After cleaning, allow carpets to dry completely before walking on them.
If you have pets, this formula is designed to handle pet messes and odors, but regular cleaning is still recommended. The StainProtect Technology helps, but it's not a substitute for prompt spot cleaning. Overall, this product offers excellent value and performance for most households.

- Easy to use and maintain with dual tank system and Auto Mix.
- Comes with a complete set of tools for upholstery, pets, and crevices.
- High customer satisfaction with a 4.4-star rating from thousands of reviews.
Cons

- Some users report occasional water leakage if the tank is not properly seated.
The Hoover PowerScrub Deluxe is a carpet cleaning machine designed for homeowners who want professional-level deep cleaning without the high cost. It is especially suited for pet owners and families dealing with tough stains and high-traffic areas.
With five counter-rotating SpinScrub brushes, it loosens and lifts dirt from multiple angles. The HeatForce drying technology reduces drying time, so carpets are ready to walk on sooner. The dual tank system keeps clean and dirty water separate, and the Auto Mix feature ensures the right solution ratio every time.
The machine comes with a complete set of tools including an upholstery tool, pet tool, crevice tool, and an 8-foot hose for extended reach. The build is sturdy but relatively lightweight at 18.5 pounds, making it easy to maneuver.
One potential drawback is that it is corded, which may limit reach in large rooms. Additionally, for best results, you should use Hoover brand cleaning solutions. Some users have noted that the water tank can be tricky to seat properly, but overall reliability is high.
Overall, the Hoover PowerScrub Deluxe offers excellent value for its price. With thousands of positive reviews and a 4.4-star rating, it is a trusted choice for deep cleaning carpets and upholstery at home.
Pros
- Excellent stain removal, even on old, set-in stains as reported by users.
- Pleasant, subtle scent that lasts for days, not weeks (as some reviews mention).
- Natural, plant-based ingredients make it safe for homes with kids and pets.
- Works effectively in all types of carpet cleaning machines, including rental and home units.
- Leaves carpets soft and fresh, enhancing the overall feel of the room.
Cons
- Some users may find the mint scent too subtle if they prefer stronger fragrances.
- Requires a separate rinse pass with clean water for optimal results, which adds time to the cleaning process.
- Not suitable for use in steam cleaners; only for shampoo-type machines.
The Sunny & Honey Carpet Cleaner Shampoo Solution is a highly effective, plant-based cleaner designed for use in carpet cleaning machines. It is perfect for households with pets, children, or high foot traffic, offering a safe yet powerful way to revive carpets and upholstery.
In real-world testing, this solution excels at removing tough stains, including pet accidents, blood, and old, set-in marks. Users report that carpets look noticeably cleaner and brighter after just one pass, and the included mint scent leaves a fresh, clean aroma that is pleasant without being overwhelming.
The formula is concentrated, so a little goes a long way, and it works with all major carpet cleaner brands. It also softens carpet fibers, making them feel plush and comfortable underfoot. The packaging is sturdy and easy to pour, and the 32-ounce size is convenient for multiple uses.
One minor drawback is that for the best results, a second rinse pass with clean water is recommended, which can extend cleaning time. Additionally, the scent may not be strong enough for those who prefer a more pronounced fragrance, though most users find it just right.
Overall, the Sunny & Honey Carpet Cleaner Shampoo is a top choice for anyone seeking a reliable, eco-friendly carpet cleaning solution. Its outstanding stain-fighting power, pleasant scent, and pet-safe ingredients make it a worthy investment for maintaining fresh, clean carpets.

When choosing a carpet cleaning solution, consider the type of machine you have (shampoo vs. steam) and the specific needs of your household. This solution is designed for shampoo-type machines and is safe for pets and kids.
For best results, pre-treat heavy stains with a small amount of undiluted solution, then follow with a full machine pass. A final rinse with clean water helps to remove any residue and maximize dirt extraction.
Store in a cool, dry place and keep out of reach of children. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure colorfastness.
Pros
- Effective at removing set-in stains and odors
- Compatible with all major carpet cleaning machines
- Leaves carpets feeling fresh without heavy residue
- Highly rated by over 18,000 customers for reliability
- Easy to mix and use with machine instructions

OxiClean Large Carpet Cleaner Liquid Solution is a go-to choice for anyone looking to rejuvenate their carpets without professional help. Designed for use in carpet shampoo machines, this 64 fl oz bottle delivers consistent, reliable stain removal for area rugs and wall-to-wall carpets. It is especially suited for busy households dealing with foot traffic, pet messes, or accidental spills, offering a practical deep-cleaning solution at home.
What sets this product apart is its oxygen-powered cleaning action. Instead of just masking odors or surface cleaning, the formula actively lifts dirt and stains from deep within carpet fibers. Users report noticeable improvements even on carpets that have looked dingy for years. For best results, vacuuming beforehand and pre-treating tough stains with OxiClean Carpet and Rug Stain Remover maximizes performance. The solution mixes easily with water in any machine, making it a straightforward addition to your cleaning routine.
Design-wise, the bottle is functional with clear dosage instructions, though at 4 pounds it can be a bit hefty. The liquid is thinner than some competitors, which some users appreciate as it reduces residue buildup and speeds up drying time. The lack of overwhelming fragrance is a plus for those sensitive to strong scents. Since its launch in 2017, it has maintained a strong reputation, reflected in its high customer satisfaction ratings.
No product is perfect. Some customers note that extremely set-in stains may need a second pass or additional pre-treatment. The scent is described as mild and clean rather than perfumed, which could be a letdown for those wanting strong floral or citrus notes. Additionally, the large size, while economical, requires proper storage to avoid spills.
Overall, OxiClean Large Carpet Cleaner Liquid Solution earns a strong recommendation for its stain-fighting power, machine compatibility, and value. It delivers on its promise to make carpets look fresh and clean, backed by a trusted brand. For most households, this is a solid investment in maintaining carpet appearance and extending the time between professional cleanings.
Pros
- Excellent deep cleaning performance on pet stains and odors.
- Lightweight and easy to maneuver compared to full-size carpet cleaners.
- Faster drying time thanks to HeatForce technology.
- Antimicrobial brush roll helps maintain freshness.
- Compact footprint fits easily in closets or small storage areas.
Cons
- Corded electric design limits reach without extension cord.
- Small 0.5-gallon water tank may require refills for larger rooms.
- Only includes a sample solution; full-size solution purchased separately.
The Hoover PowerDash Pet is a compact carpet cleaner built for pet owners and busy households who need a quick, effective way to remove stains and odors. It delivers 2X more cleaning power than leading lightweight cleaners, making short work of everything from muddy paw prints to spilled juice. Despite its power, the machine weighs only 12.5 pounds and has a slim profile that stores easily in closets or under beds.
A standout feature is the HeatForce technology, which dries carpets much faster than conventional cleaners. This means you can walk on freshly cleaned carpets in about an hour, not half a day. The antimicrobial PowerSpin Pet Brush Roll further enhances the experience by resisting the growth of odor-causing bacteria, keeping the machine fresh between uses. The brush roll also agitates fibers deeply to lift dirt from high-traffic zones.
Design and build quality are typical of Hoover: functional, durable plastic with a straightforward setup. The 15-inch cleaning path covers a good area per pass, and the trigger spray gives you control over how much solution you apply. The removable water tank is easy to fill and rinse, though at half a gallon it may need refills for larger rooms. The included sample solution is a nice starter, but you'll want to buy a full bottle for ongoing use.
One drawback is its corded design, which requires a nearby outlet or an extension cord for larger spaces. Also, while it's great for spot cleaning and small rooms, it may not replace a full-size carpet cleaner for wall-to-wall deep cleans in very large areas. Some users note the machine can be a bit noisy, but that's typical for powerful carpet cleaners.
Overall, the Hoover PowerDash Pet is an excellent value for pet owners and those living in apartments or smaller homes. It combines impressive cleaning strength with lightweight portability and fast drying, all at a reasonable price point. If you need a reliable, easy-to-use spot and area cleaner, this is a top contender.
Pros
- Extremely easy to use – just push forward to clean, pull back to dry
- Auto-mix ensures proper solution concentration every time
- HeatForce drying reduces carpet downtime
- Effective on pet stains and high-traffic soil
- Includes useful tools for stairs and upholstery
Cons
- Corded design limits reach without extension cord
- At 18.5 pounds, it is relatively heavy for a carpet cleaner
- Requires Hoover brand solution for best results, adding ongoing cost
The Hoover SmartWash+ automatic carpet cleaner (model FH52000) takes the hassle out of deep cleaning carpets. Designed for homeowners with busy lifestyles, it eliminates guesswork with motion-sensing technology: simply push forward to wash and pull back to dry. No buttons, no triggers, no measuring. This makes it ideal for frequent use in homes with pets, children, or high-traffic areas where carpets need regular refreshment.
Standout features include the Auto Mix system, which automatically blends the correct amount of cleaning solution, and HeatForce drying that speeds water evaporation so carpets are usable faster. The FlexForce PowerBrushes combine stiff and soft bristles to gently dislodge ground-in dirt while being safe for delicate carpet fibers. In real-world use, users report noticeable improvement in carpet brightness and reduced drying time compared to manual models.
Build quality is solid, typical of Hoover's 100-year legacy. The machine feels stable on carpets and maneuvers well, though at 18.5 pounds it is heavier than some competitors. The included 8-foot hose, stair tool, and 2-in-1 pet tool add versatility for upholstery and stairs. The turquoise color and compact storage design are practical, and the 5-year warranty inspires confidence.
A couple of drawbacks: the unit is corded, which may require extension cords for large rooms, and it works best with Hoover brand cleaning solutions, adding recurring cost. Some users note that the water tank capacity (0.5 gallons) needs frequent refills for very large areas, and the machine can be a bit bulky to carry up and down stairs.
Overall, the Hoover SmartWash+ is a top choice for anyone seeking a truly automatic carpet cleaner. Its push-button operation, effective cleaning, and faster drying make it a worthwhile investment for maintaining clean carpets with minimal effort. For families with pets or kids, it is a time-saver that delivers professional-style results at home.
Pros

- Fast drying time with Express Clean Mode, reducing inconvenience
- Easy to assemble, use, and clean after each session
- Powerful suction that leaves carpets looking brand new
- Long power cord and 8-foot hose for extended reach without unplugging
Cons
- Heavy machine, which can be difficult to maneuver for some users
- Water tank needs frequent refilling during large cleaning sessions
- Included trial-size formulas may not be enough for a single large room, so extra cleaner may be needed
The BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Plus Carpet Cleaner is a purpose-built machine for pet owners who need to tackle tough stains and odors. With features like CleanShot Pretreater with OXY and MAX Clean Mode, this upright cleaner is designed to restore carpets that have seen heavy pet traffic.
Standout features include the CleanShot Pretreater that targets set-in stains like cat urine and skunk odors, and the Express Clean Mode that dries carpets in about 30 minutes. Real-world performance from users confirms it removes even old, heavy stains, making carpets look like new.
The Dual DirtLifter PowerBrushes provide double scrubbing action to lift embedded dirt and pet hair, and the antimicrobial coating helps keep the brushes fresh. The FreshStart Dirt Tank continuously prevents odors inside the machine, and the one-piece brush roll cover makes cleaning easy.
However, the machine is heavy, and users report that the water tank requires frequent refills during large cleaning jobs. The included trial-size formulas may not be sufficient for a full room, so purchasing additional cleaner is recommended.
Overall, the BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Plus is a highly effective carpet cleaner for pet households. It offers professional-level cleaning, fast drying, and the added benefit of supporting the BISSELL Pet Foundation. Highly recommended for pet owners.

The BISSELL TurboClean Pet XL (model 3746) is an upright carpet cleaner tailored for pet owners who need deep cleaning power. With a 10-inch clean path and a 1-gallon tank, it efficiently covers large areas and reduces refill stops. This machine is ideal for homes with pets, tackling tough stains and allergens.
Standout features include the 4-Row DeepReach PowerBrush that agitates deep into carpet fibers to remove embedded pet dirt and dander. The included PRO MAX Clean and Protect formula with StainProtect Technology helps prevent future stains, while the bonus Pet Stain and Odor formula targets stubborn pet messes. Real-world performance is strong, with a 4.3-star average from thousands of reviews.
Design and build quality are solid for the price. The cleaner weighs 23.3 pounds, making it manageable for most users. The above-floor tools, such as the 3-inch Tough Stain Tool, add versatility for cleaning stairs and upholstery. However, the corded electric power source limits range without an extension cord.
One potential drawback is the relatively short hose for above-floor cleaning, which may require moving the unit closer to the area. Additionally, the full tank of water can be heavy to carry. Some users wish for a longer power cord. Despite these minor issues, the machine delivers excellent cleaning results for pet-related messes.
Overall, the BISSELL TurboClean Pet XL is a great investment for pet owners seeking a reliable carpet cleaner. It combines effective stain removal, large capacity, and useful tools at a reasonable price. If you have pets and need to deep clean carpets frequently, this model is highly recommended.

The BISSELL TurboClean Upright Carpet Cleaner 3952 is a lightweight, compact solution for households that need a powerful clean on high-traffic areas, pet messes, and everyday stains. Designed for small spaces, this machine is ideal for apartment dwellers, pet owners, or anyone looking to refresh area rugs and targeted carpet sections without the bulk of a full-size cleaner.
Its standout feature is the 4-Row DeepReach PowerBrush, which works with strong suction to lift ground-in dirt and stains that vacuums leave behind. The included Pro Max Clean + Protect formula with StainProtect Technology helps defend against future stains, while the Pet Pro OXY Urine Eliminator tackles tough pet odors at the source. Real-world performance is impressive for its size, outcleaning competing lightweight models according to ASTM tests.
The design is compact and lightweight at 16.3 pounds, making it easy to carry up stairs or store in a closet. The removable nozzle simplifies cleaning and maintenance, ensuring the machine stays effective. However, the 1-gallon capacity is modest, requiring more frequent refills for larger jobs, and the corded power source limits mobility without an extension cord.
Some users may find the water tank small for whole-house cleaning, but for spot treatments and small rooms, it is perfectly adequate. The plastic construction feels durable enough for regular use, though it is not as heavy-duty as larger commercial models. Overall, the TurboClean 3952 delivers excellent value for its price point.
In conclusion, the BISSELL TurboClean 3952 is a top choice for those needing a portable, effective carpet cleaner for small spaces and pet-related messes. Its combination of powerful cleaning, included formulas, and social impact through BISSELL Pet Foundation support makes it a compelling purchase. Highly recommended for its intended use.
