Air Conditioners
This category covers window air conditioners and portable air conditioners for home use.
We compare cooling capacity in BTU, room size guidance, and Energy Star or DOE efficiency data against manufacturer specifications, along with verified owner reports on noise level, how well a unit holds its set temperature, and installation fit for different window types.
Window and portable units need a way to exhaust heat outside and, for portable models, a way to manage condensate. A poorly sealed exhaust hose or a missed drain line reduces cooling performance and can lead to water pooling indoors. We also check the manufacturer’s stated circuit amperage and plug type, since larger units may require a dedicated 15 or 20 amp circuit rather than a standard shared outlet. Look for Energy Star certification and, where listed, an AHRI-rated capacity.
