Laundry

This category covers washing machines and dryers, in top-load, front-load, electric, gas, and combination washer-dryer configurations, for home use.

We compare capacity in cubic feet as rated under AHAM’s standard, cycle options, and Energy Star or DOE efficiency data against manufacturer specifications, along with verified owner reports on vibration, load balance sensing, and long-term drum or motor reliability.

Washers need a dedicated water supply and drain line, and electric dryers need a dedicated 240V circuit; gas dryers need a properly sized gas line. That work should go through a licensed plumber or electrician, not a DIY hookup. Dryers pose a fire risk from lint buildup in the drum, vent, and exhaust duct, so the duct should be cleaned periodically and never blocked or crushed. Gas dryers also burn fuel and can produce carbon monoxide if the vent is blocked or the unit is not maintained, so proper venting matters for safety as well as performance.
